WASHINGTON: Immigration is a driving force in American economy, President Barack Obamasaid as he called on the Congress to pass the immigration reform bill which would provide pathway to citizenship to millions of undocumented workers from countries like India.
"Immigration isn't just part of our national character, it is a driving force in our economythat creates jobs and prosperity for all of our citizens," Obama said at a White House event on immigration ahead of the Senate consideration of the comprehensive immigration reform bill.
"In recent years one in four of America's new small-business owners were immigrants. One in four high-tech startups in America were founded by immigrants. Forty percent of Fortune 500 companies were started by a first-or second-generation American. Think about that.

HOUSTON: A 44-year-old woman in the US has fatally stabbed her boyfriend to death with astiletto high heel after an argument.
Houston Police charged Ana Trujillo with murder by high heels. Trujillo reportedly told investigators that she stabbed the man in self-defense.
The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, Houston Police department said in a statement.
Police said they responded to a report of an assault at the Parklane high-rise condominium complex in Houston's Theatre District on early Sunday.
Trujillo opened the door for police, who discovered the man's body on the floor, the statement said.
